ABOUT CAM RALEIGH URBAN SKETCHING
CAM Raleigh urban sketching is a group dedicated to sketching from direct observation in the trenches of the warehouse district. With so many changes happening around CAM Raleigh at lightning speed, we have spent the better part of many Saturday afternoons with a sketchbook in hand capturing the stories and beauty of the changing landscape. We are a diverse group of varied cultural and ethnic backgrounds who are truly sketchy at heart. During the sessions we often draw each other in action. Our mediums range from pencil, pen, pastels, watercolor, mud, coffee, or whatever unique medium we can think of. All of these sketches were done on location during the second Saturday of each month with the fantastic support of CAM Raleigh. We are a regional chapter of the international Urban Sketching community.
URBAN SKETCHING MANIFESTO:
We draw the world around us. We don’t use photographs. We try to be supportive and encourage all people at all skill levels to share our passion. We don’t charge money to join the group or to sketch together. We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
Our drawings are a record of time and place.
We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
We support each other and draw together.
We share our drawings online.
We show the world, one drawing at a time.
