Teen Seen @ Deep Surface

By CAM Raleigh | December 2, 2011

Junky Styling
Hooded Waistcoat

Annika Sanders and Kerry Seager give a new and fresh life to old tacky suits, through combining old pieces. The artists have created a modern style that presents a friendly mockery of the typical suited businessman. The initial act of adding a hoodie to a waistcoat begins the satire of the professional style. These punkish yet civilized creations present a new thought process to certain over-used stereotypes.

Teen Seen @ Deep Surface Exhibition

Andrea Tinnes
Volvox

Quickly you find yourself enamored by the pulsing, shifting nature of Volvox. Customizable via keyboard and mouse, this art has limitless possibilities. I could play with it for hours, creating and recreating over and over again. However, the fact that the art becomes yours when you step in front of it and take the mouse in your hands is the main appeal of Volvox. It allows anyone to be the artist.

Alabama Chanin
Addie Dress, Anna's Garden Dress, Anna Jacket and Anna's Swing Coat

In the Deep Surface exhibition at CAM Raleigh, perhaps one of the most intricate handmade pieces are those by Alabama Chanin. Designed and hand sewn by Natalie Chanin, the garments display outstanding craftsmanship and a unique, organic appeal. They are constructed out of cotton knit fabric, using a reverse applique sewing technique for embellishment.
