In this workshop we will meet guest artist Olek who crochets everything and work as a group to create our own crocheted intervention at CAM Raleigh. Participants will have the opportunity to see Olek's artwork featured at Flander's Art Gallery and learn about her unique creative process.
Simple crochet techniques will be reviewed. Prior crochet experience is helpful, but not required for this workshop.
Olek has spent the past decade in America “aggressively re-weaving the world as she sees fit.” Whether she uses wool or balloons, few things are safe from her intervention, be it covering the Wall Street Bull or entrapping a shopping cart in crochet. Olek is an international artist for whom the entire world is her inspiration and installation. Olek’s work is featured in the Make Ends Meet exhibition at Flander’s Art Gallery June 1–July 21, 2012.
Cayce Lee recently earned her masters in Fibers and Surface Design at NC State University College of Design, where she also teaches introductory coursework. She is also a practicing artist and member of the Raleigh-based fiber group, the Common Seam Collective.
