Angel Otero: Dinner with the Artist
Thursday, October 18, 2012 / 7:00 p.m.
18 Seaboard Restaurant
Angel Otero was recently named one of the "50 Next Most Collectible Artists" by Art + Auction magazine, and was highlighted by the Financial Times as having the "potential to be [one of] tomorrow's most sought after names." Through his innovative painting process of removing and re-assembling layers of dried oil paint, Otero venerates historical technique while challenging it head on. Born in 1981 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, the artist's work is a constant negotiation between his individual history and the history of art. Otero says he aims to "stay true to the past and at the same time bring some rebeliness into the work in order evoke a tension between what the world is, or should be, and the way we represent it.”
CAM Raleigh Executive Director Elysia Borowy-Reeder will host this special evening in celebration of Otero's premiere museum exhibition, on view October 19 - February 4, 2013. The exhibition features several new works, including 3 porcelain and steel scuptures created for the space at CAM Raleigh.
