Our Student Docents Are Back!!!

By CAM Raleigh | January 6, 2012

They’re baaaaccccck!

Our 2012 middle school student docent program kicked off its first week of training this week. Twenty-one students from Moore Square Museums Magnet Middle School and Exploris Middle School have been selected to serve as docents for our upcoming Born Digital exhibition.

Over the next four weeks, our docents will learn the ins and outs of CAM Raleigh while they meet exhibiting artists and curators and witness Born Digital come to life. Training sessions employ an inquiry-based approach to teach docent and leadership skills to decode and critically analyze works of art featured in the exhibition. When our training is complete, these young docents will use this same approach to engage our museum visitors in a conversation about the work on view.

During this first training session, docents were introduced to the museum and the Born Digital exhibition. We also discussed our positive and negative museum experiences and what kind of experience we want the visitors of CAM Raleigh to have.

This is the second docent program since the museum opened on April 30, 2011. I can already tell this fresh batch of docents are going to be fabulous! You will be able to see for yourself later this month...
